TRAGEDY STRIKES KETU SOUTH
TRAGEDY STRIKES KETU SOUTH : 20-Year-Old Takes His Own Life.
It was reported on the 13th June 2025 that a young man aged 20 took his own life allegedly at Akame Nyekornakpoe, a small vicinity in Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region.
The deceased known as Prince Tengey was found in room hanging during the bright mornings of Wednesday 11th June 2025. Prince was deaf and dumb and also worked as a coconut seller in his vicinity. According to eyewitnesses, Prince was said to be found by a friend who came to call him out for their day to day activities. Locals said his smile creased his entire face and his eyes sparkled the previous night with no noticeable indication of emotional pain, anxiety or suffering.
Initial findings and reports stated that Prince had recently been involved in a legal situation. His worn expression and faded eyes told the story of prolonged confinement. The lines on his face seemed etched from countless sleepless nights and his movements were stiff as if freedom’s warmth had been a distant memory for far too long. The dim light in his gaze hinted at a spirit tested by the weight of isolation. He was accused of sexual assault. The case was ongoing in court as he was expected to be in court as scheduled on Tuesday 10th June 2025 but he failed to make his presence known at court. The inhabitants of his vicinity claimed that he had been given a warning shoot from the police that his failure to make his presence known at the court or police station would call for another arrest. The Assembly Member of the vicinity, Mr Wilfred Dakunya, made confirmations that the incident and emotional strain from the legal proceedings may have played a major role in his death. Mr Wilfred also reported the incident to the Ghana News Agency. He stated that measures are going to be taken in collaboration with important stakeholders to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. Mr Wilfred Dakunya advised the inhabitants to seek counseling from community leaders and other available support systems in times of distress.
He also stated that “We must support one another and talk about our problems. Taking your own life is never the solution “.
The Ghana News Agency has made efforts to have conversations with the family of the deceased but it was unsuccessful because his parents who are visibly distressed declined to comment. The body has been deposited at Ketu South Municipal Hospital morgue for autopsy as investigations continue.
This story is developing and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
